Lakers Set to Offer Dalton Knecht in Pursuit of Promising Center Yves Missi
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering a trade that involves moving Dalton Knecht, along with other assets, to enhance their roster. Players like Jarred Vanderbilt and possibly Jake LaRavia have also been mentioned as potential trade candidates, as the team seeks to address certain weaknesses, particularly at the center position.
Current starting center Deandre Ayton has faced scrutiny, prompting the Lakers to explore options for a more reliable player in that role. According to insider Evan Sidery, the Lakers are revisiting their interest in New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi, a player they previously discussed acquiring in exchange for Knecht and a second-round draft pick.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Sidery stated, "Los Angeles and the Pelicans had previously discussed during the season a framework of Dalton Knecht and 2nd-round draft capital for Missi." At just 22 years old, Missi was named to the All-Rookie second team last season and boasts impressive stats, averaging 5.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in about 20 minutes of play per game this season.
Missi may not be known for his outside shooting, but his athleticism is notable, standing at 6-foot-11 with a wingspan of 7-foot-2 and a vertical leap reaching up to 38.5 inches. His skills could complement the Lakers' fast-paced style, providing a strong lob threat and a solid presence in rebounding and shot-blocking.
On the other hand, Knecht, the 17th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, has struggled to make an impact in his rookie season. He has only managed to average 4.2 points over 10.2 minutes per game, shooting 34.2% from beyond the arc. The Lakers hope he might find success elsewhere, given that he was initially viewed as a potential sharpshooter in the league.
With Missi's contract set at $3.5 million for the upcoming season, he presents an affordable option for the Lakers as they continue their quest to bolster their lineup for a championship run.
