Alvin Kamara has been a staple of the New Orleans Saints since being drafted back in 2017.
The dynamic running back was one of the best in the league at his position for a while, making the Pro Bowl five consecutive years to open his career. However, Kamara has dealt with multiple injuries over the last few years and his production has started to dip slightly.
As a result, the Saints added Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency this offseason. It seems like Etienne will be the lead back now, while Kamara is utilized on passing downs. However, it's also possible the Saints could see what Kamara is worth on the trade market as well.
Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report recently identified some realistic trade ideas ahead of the 2026 season. One of Davenport's proposals was Kamara to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick.
Regarding this potential deal, Davenport offered the following:
At 30 years old and coming off an injury-marred season, Kamara isn't the player he once was. But there are NFL teams who could certainly use someone with his experience and resume.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of those teams.
After winning 13 games and capturing the AFC South in 2025, the Jags are living in the now. The team lost Etienne in free agency, and while Jacksonville signed Chris Rodriguez Jr. and has second-year pro Bhayshul Tuten on the roster, Rodriguez has never logged 120 carries in a season and Tuten averaged just 3.7 yards per carry as a rookie.
As Davenport mentioned, Kamara is still a capable weapon in this league. Getting traded to the Jaguars would be ironic considering the Saints signed Etienne from the Jaguars.
But, with Etienne's departure, the Jaguars don't have a workhorse back on the roster. As Davenport noted, neither Chris Rodriguez Jr. nor Bhayshul Tuten have ever handled an RB1 workload, so a veteran like Kamara could be a welcomed addition.
In 2025, Kamara played in 11 games and rushed for 471 yards and one touchdown. The veteran also caught 33 passes for 186 yards, but ultimately ended with his lowest season total in both categories.
A fifth-round pick may not seem like a big enough return, but it could be all the Saints will get. Kamara will be 31 when the 2026 season begins, and he's coming off the worst season of his career.
It wouldn't be the most satisfying end to Kamara's legendary tenure in New Orleans, but it may be best for all involved.
