LeBron James Lauds Cooper Flagg's Remarkable Rookie Season

This NBA season has introduced several impressive rookies, with Cooper Flagg leading the charge. In the latest episode of the "Mind the Game" podcast, LeBron James and co-host Steve Nash discussed the impressive rookie class of the 2025-26 season. James expressed admiration for Flagg's performance, despite his team, the Dallas Mavericks, not qualifying for the play-in tournament and facing uncertain prospects. Nonetheless, James believes Flagg represents a beacon of hope for the Mavericks.

During the conversation, James highlighted one of Flagg's standout performances this season. "Obviously Cooper, like we talked about, the biggest upside I believe of all of them," he stated. "He’s had some unbelievable moments this year. Obviously the team is not up to par of what he is expecting of himself, expecting of the team, but that doesn’t take away from what he’s doing." James noted Flagg’s impressive stats, including a 49-point game against Charlotte, making him the youngest player to score 46 in a game since Brandon Jennings, and surpassing James' record for most points scored by an 18-year-old.

Throughout the season, Flagg averaged 21 points per game with a shooting percentage of 46.8%, along with 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists. His highest scoring performance came on April 3, when he tallied 51 points against the Orlando Magic, followed closely by a 45-point game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

While it remains uncertain if Flagg will reach the heights of Luka Doncic, the former Mavericks star who now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers alongside James, there is a consensus that Flagg possesses the potential to become a remarkable player. The NBA continues to thrive with a diverse array of talent, contributing to a significant increase in viewership this season.
