Lions' Drew Petzing Sees Penei Sewell as Potential Top Left Tackle in NFL

Penei Sewell is embracing his role as he transitions into the Detroit Lions' starting left tackle position during the offseason training activities (OTAs). Following a practice session on Thursday at the team's facility in Allen Park, Michigan, Sewell shared his approach to the change.

"For me, it's about taking day-by-day and focusing on what's right in front of me," Sewell explained. "If I look too far ahead, it can get frustrating. So I just come into the building every day and find something to improve."

With veteran Taylor Decker retiring, Sewell is poised to take over a key position on the offensive line. The Lions' coaching staff is optimistic about this transition. Having played left tackle during his college career at Oregon and starting eight games in that position as a rookie, Sewell is familiar with the demands of the role. Sewell expressed confidence in his ability to make the switch, noting, "I think everybody has a pretty good understanding now of what the switch is like." He acknowledged the challenges of adjusting one's stance and other fundamentals but is focused on self-improvement during this period.

Campbell reaffirmed his belief in Sewell's versatility, declaring, “Penei Sewell can do it all.” This season, Sewell's performance will be crucial for the Lions as they aim to strengthen their offensive line.
