Long Island Mom Accidentally Purchases $8,000 Parking Pass Instead of World Cup Tickets

A woman from Long Island, New York, faced an astonishing $8,100 charge after mistakenly buying a parking pass while attempting to secure FIFA World Cup tickets for her son. Elizabeth Saitta shared her experience with NBC New York, explaining that she used StubHub to purchase seats for the upcoming Brazil vs. Morocco match at MetLife Stadium, scheduled for this Saturday. The tickets, intended as a Christmas surprise for her son, were priced at $772, plus insurance.

To her shock, Saitta discovered an additional charge of $8,100 during the checkout process, having inadvertently acquired a parking pass that significantly inflated her total expense. She quickly contacted StubHub to request a refund, reaching out “seconds, maybe a minute” after the purchase was completed. Initially, her request was denied, but following NBC New York's inquiry, the company changed its stance and issued her a refund.

“Hallelujah! ... It was just amazing,” Saitta expressed her relief upon receiving the refund. A StubHub representative commented to The Independent, stating that while they could not discuss specific customer cases, they confirmed that the company had collaborated with Saitta to facilitate her refund.

The current World Cup tournament commenced on Thursday in Mexico City, with the U.S. anticipating a significant influx of visitors this summer, as it will host over 70 matches across eleven states, culminating in the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium. However, despite the global enthusiasm for the event, a recent Emerson College poll indicated that about 45 percent of Americans are not particularly interested in the World Cup, with only 22 percent expressing "very interested" sentiments. Younger voters appear to be more engaged, with 38 percent under 40 indicating strong interest compared to just 10 percent of those aged 70 and above. Additionally, fans have voiced concerns over soaring ticket prices, a sentiment echoed by former President Donald Trump, who remarked, “I would certainly like to be there, but I wouldn’t pay it either, to be honest with you.”
