Luke Kennard Desires Long-Term Stay with Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are facing a crucial moment as several key players prepare to enter free agency this month. While the spotlight has been on stars like LeBron James and Austin Reaves, the franchise also needs to focus on retaining other valuable assets, including sharpshooter Luke Kennard.
Kennard, who joined the Lakers in a midseason trade from the Atlanta Hawks, has made a notable impact on the team's performance. His skills extend beyond just shooting; he has shown the ability to attack defenders, create his own shot, and facilitate plays when necessary.
According to an ESPN report by Dave McMenamin, Kennard is eager to establish a lasting presence in Los Angeles. "Kennard, for his part, was on an $11 million expiring contract and has interest in making L.A. his long-term home after previously playing 2½ seasons with the LA Clippers," McMenamin noted.
One area where the Lakers have struggled is bench scoring and depth, and Kennard has contributed significantly in this regard. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged nine points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in 23 minutes of play, boasting impressive shooting percentages of 52.7% overall and 44.8% from beyond the arc during the regular season. Notably, he ranks second in career 3-point shooting percentage at 44.2%, trailing only Steve Kerr.
In the current playoffs, with injuries sidelining both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, Kennard stepped up, averaging 11.5 points per game while hitting 47.4% of his 3-point attempts.
