It is not often to do two jersey retirements, exactly one season apart. Even further than that, to retire the exact same number. The Seattle Mariners just made it official tonight in their game against the Kansas City Royals.

Last season, Ichiro Suzuki was enshrined into Mariners history with his infamous No. 51 retired. Nobody will ever be able to wear that number again.

But, there was another historic player in Mariners history to don that number, and obviously it was not at the same time as Ichiro. That player, being Hall of Fame pitcher, Randy Johnson.

Johnson was honored with his No. 51 being retired at T-Mobile Park. This is the second franchise to retire his number, following the Arizona Diamondbacks did it back in 2015. It is a momentous achievement and both players deserve to be forever remembered by th franchise that they made famous.

In 10 seasons for Seattle, the "Big Unit" amassed a record of 130-74, with a 3.42 ERA and 2162 strikeouts. He threw 51 complete games, go figure, which included 19 shutouts.

Seattle has had some incredible players play in their Northwest Green uniforms, and even today there are some future players that could join Ichiro and Johnson in the retired numbers category. Namely Cal Raleigh, who is having a bit of a rough season in 2026, but has a very long career ahead of him.

Is there a chance that another player from the Mariners history books could be retired in 2027. Probably not. But, enjoy the moment as one of the most dominant pitchers in Major League Baseball history is celebrated.
