Master Your Swing Plane with This Easy Tip for Better Iron Play
Maintaining a proper swing plane is crucial for golfers looking to improve their game. Many amateur players struggle with this aspect, but a straightforward drill can make a significant difference.
To execute this exercise, you will need a club, a ball, and two tees. Begin by setting up as you normally would, then place one tee about a foot behind your ball. The second tee should be inserted into the end of your grip, extending a couple of inches outward.
As you initiate your backswing, pause when your lead arm reaches a parallel position to the ground, known in golfing terms as P3. At this point, the tee protruding from your grip should be aligned with the tee positioned in the ground. If the butt of your grip is directed away from the tee, it indicates a shallow swing path. Conversely, if it points toward the tee, your swing is too steep.
By consistently aiming the butt of your grip at the target tee behind the ball during your P3 position, you'll ensure your club remains on plane, setting you up for a more effective hit. Dr. Alison Curdt, a GOLF Top 100 Teacher and director of instruction at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, California, emphasizes the importance of this technique for refining your iron play.
