Max Verstappen speaks out on ‘problem’ with Juan Pablo Montoya after latest criticism
Max Verstappen has finally hit back at Juan Pablo Montoya, who’s been one of his harshest critics in recent months.
No one in Formula 1 has been more critical of Verstappen recently than Montoya. And over the past few months, the criticism hasn’t slowed down.
One remark that really grabbed attention was Montoya suggesting that Verstappen should be fined for speaking out against the new regulations.
After months of comments and critiques from Montoya, Verstappen has finally responded with a pointed reply.
Max Verstappen questions why F1 work with Juan Pablo Montoya after recent comments
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Verstappen addressed Montoya’s remarks but didn’t engage with any specific claims. Instead, he hinted that the former driver might be using criticism to stay in the spotlight.
“I don’t know what his problem is. I also have very little patience with someone who talks so much nonsense,” Verstappen said.
“I just don’t understand why types like that get paid by Formula 1 management, simply because he sometimes works for them.
“Surely you don’t want someone like that in the paddock who spouts so much rubbish? I think it’s a case of: ‘I say something different from everyone else, so I’m relevant.’ It doesn’t bother me that much; it’s his problem. I live my life and won’t let it influence me.”
Max Verstappen looks to continue Red Bull momentum as season picks up pace
Verstappen’s recent interview also addressed several lingering storylines about his frustration with Formula 1, including his future plans with Red Bull and how he sees the next stage of his career unfolding.
Now that those issues have been discussed, it’s time for him to fully concentrate on the current season. After a challenging start, Red Bull have made progress in car development, giving Verstappen more opportunities to compete near the front.
While he still has concerns about how some things are being handled within the team, there’s no doubt that Red Bull now have a car capable of keeping him in the mix against other top drivers.
They may not be as dominant as they once were, but with Verstappen behind the wheel, you can never count them out. His presence alone gives them a fighting chance every race weekend.
