Mesilla Valley Christian's Weston Marr is the El Paso Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week for May 11-16
Mesilla Valley Christian baseball's Weston Marr has been voted as the Las Cruces Sun-News El Paso Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week for the Week of May 11-16.
Marr was one of 10 baseball, softball and track and field nominees from Las Cruces, Mayfield, Organ Mountain, Centennial and Mesilla Valley Christian. These were the other nine nominees:
- Audrina Guillen, Mayfield softball
- Sofia Herrera, Las Cruces girls track and field
- Angelina Ramirez, Mayfield softball
- Daxton Coombs, Organ Mountain boys track and field
- Ausaundra Roberto, Mayfield softball
- Zach Beasley, Mesilla Valley Christian baseball
- Jada Lopez, Centennial softball
- Miles Odom, Mayfield track and field
- Jayleen Ponce, Mayfield softball
Marr received 58.43% of the vote to win the honor. He earned his nomination after striking out nine batters and allowing no runs on one hit in a 4-0 win over Eunice in the 2A semfinals.
Marr batted .644 this season with 35 RBIs, five doubles, four triples and five home runs with an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.857. He recorded a 1.41 ERA as a pitcher with 49 strikeouts and led the SonBlazers with 39.2 innings pitched. He was a part of the Mesilla Valley Christian team that won the 2A state championship this year.
