Mets' Jorge Polanco Advances in Rehab with Double-A Binghamton, Eyes Return for Padres Series
Mets designated hitter and first baseman Jorge Polanco is making strides in his rehabilitation process, continuing his assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Saturday night as he inches closer to a big league comeback.
After serving as the designated hitter in his initial two games, Polanco took the field at first base for three innings. Although he went hitless, recording two strikeouts in his 0-for-2 performance, he had shown promise the night before by hitting a three-run homer.
The Mets are optimistic about Polanco's imminent return, anticipating he could rejoin the team during their upcoming road trip. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the organization hopes he will be available for their three-game series against the San Diego Padres starting on Friday, June 5. However, he is not expected to participate in the series against the Seattle Mariners that kicks off on Monday.
Throughout his rehab stint, Polanco has played in three games, accumulating a total of two hits, including a home run, three RBIs, two walks, and three strikeouts. He has been sidelined since April 14 due to issues with his Achilles and wrist.
