Football pundits love wild drama, especially when it hits rival teams. Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin talked about the New York Giants locker room on his podcast. He smiled because he thinks political issues will hurt the team this year. Head coach John Harbaugh wants the players to work hard and stay united.
Yet, unexpected choices by young players can quickly ruin team chemistry. Giants starting quarterback Jaxson Dart recently attended a large political rally. The 23-year-old passer walked onto the stage to welcome Donald Trump. Dart told the crowd, "What an honor, what a privilege it is to be here".
The public appearance quickly upset at least one key player on the roster. Linebacker Abdul Carter saw the political video online and got very confused. Carter shared the clip on X and wrote, "thought this [expletive] was AI, what we doing man".
The viral social media post made fans think the team had a massive fight. Irvin completely agreed that this drama would slow down the New York franchise. He explained that public arguments create a big problem for a head coach. "Whatever they're trying to get, that's going to slow down the train right there," Irvin said.
Irvin knows how locker room issues can hurt a team. He has seen it happen before and understands how quickly it can end a team's season.
Irvin made these polarizing remarks during a July 2021 interview on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. The Hall of Fame receiver stated that unvaccinated NFL players were not doing everything in their power to win a championship and famously declared on NBC Sports, “I don’t care about the right wing, I don’t care about the left wing -- I only care about a ring”.
The good news is that the tension between the two players did not last long. Hours later, Carter published a follow-up statement confirming they spoke privately "as men" to squash the brewing tension and urging outsiders to drop narratives of a locker-room rift.
