Michael Penix Jr. Optimistic About Recovery as Falcons Prepare for Training Camp

The Atlanta Falcons are taking a careful approach with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as he continues to recover from a torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2025 season. Despite not yet participating in full team drills during the offseason, Penix is hopeful that he will receive full medical clearance ahead of training camp later this summer.

While the decision to limit his involvement comes from the team's medical staff, Penix feels physically capable of more. “I felt confident with everything,” he remarked, noting that sometimes trainers prevent him from participating in drills, despite his eagerness to play. “If it was up to me, I’d go out there and do everything. I’d do 11-on-11 now,” he added, acknowledging the importance of prioritizing his long-term health over immediate desires.

Before his injury in Week 11, Penix demonstrated the skills that led Atlanta to select him with the eighth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In his nine starts last season, he completed 60.1% of his passes for 1,982 yards, with nine touchdowns against just three interceptions. His strong performance showcased his potential as a top quarterback, ranking him among the league leaders in interception percentage.

With 14 career games under his belt and a total of 2,757 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions, Penix has garnered praise from coaches for his rehabilitation progress. The Falcons are committed to exercising patience as they prepare for his return, anticipating that he will be fully engaged when training camp commences, which could significantly enhance their playoff aspirations for the 2026 season.
