Michigan Football Extends Offers to Sons of Legends
For those who have closely followed Michigan football, the passing of time might feel even more pronounced as the Wolverines continue to attract the next generation of talent linked to past stars. Recently, they welcomed a significant legacy player into the 2027 recruitment class, three-star safety Charles Woodson Jr., the son of Michigan's iconic cornerback Charles Woodson, who committed to the university in May. Now, another notable name from the past is making headlines.
Marquis Ray, a three-star athlete from Columbus, Ohio, who is set to transfer to Saline, Michigan, has received an offer from Michigan as part of the 2028 recruiting class. Ray, the son of former Michigan defensive back Marcus Ray, shared his excitement about the offer on social media, stating, “Today, I had a great camp and a great conversation with several coaches.. And, I’m thrilled to say that Michigan offered!!”
In addition to Ray, the 2029 recruiting class features Mario Manningham Jr., a wide receiver from Akron, Ohio, who is yet to be rated. He is following in the footsteps of his father, Mario Manningham, a celebrated Michigan wide receiver from 2004 to 2007. Manningham Jr. also announced his first Division 1 offer from Michigan, expressing his gratitude online.
Ray is currently ranked as the No. 29 athlete in the 2028 class according to Rivals, while Manningham Jr. awaits his ranking. These offers mark a significant moment as Michigan continues its tradition of recruiting players with deep ties to the program's storied history.
