Michigan State Shortstop Dayton Murphy Transfers to Purdue

Dayton Murphy, the starting shortstop for Michigan State's baseball team, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal and decided to continue his athletic career at Purdue University. The Boilermakers will welcome Murphy as he joins the team for the 2027 season.

A native of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Murphy has spent the past two seasons with the Spartans. He secured the starting shortstop position in 2026, during which he participated in 49 games and made 45 starts, achieving a batting average of .267 alongside an OPS of .685. In his freshman year, he played in 42 games and started in 31, but had a lower batting average of .186.

This transfer places Michigan State in a position to search for a new starting shortstop ahead of the upcoming season. As Murphy transitions to Purdue, he expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “Boiler Up 🚂 @PurdueBaseball #committed.”
