Mikel Arteta Targets Europa League Champion for Arsenal Reinforcement This Summer
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen on enhancing his squad by pursuing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa as the summer transfer window approaches. Following the Gunners' successful campaign that saw them clinch their first Premier League title in over two decades, Arteta is eager to build on that momentum.
After suffering a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the recent Champions League final held at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Arteta conveyed a strong message to the club's management, urging them to demonstrate "ambition" in their transfer endeavors. He believes that significant signings are essential for elevating the team’s performance.
Reportedly, the Mirror indicates that Rogers is a key target for Arsenal. The 23-year-old has shown versatility on the pitch, capable of playing both as an attacking midfielder and on the left wing. However, Arsenal may face stiff competition for Rogers, as PSG has also taken notice of his impressive growth at Villa.
During the 2025-26 season, Rogers made a notable impact, contributing to 17 goals in 37 league appearances, which was instrumental in Villa securing a spot in the Champions League. Moreover, he played a crucial role in the club's Europa League victory, netting three goals in 15 matches, including a decisive goal against Freiburg in the final.
While Aston Villa may be willing to consider selling Rogers to manage their finances, the transfer fee is likely to be substantial, especially with his contract running until 2031. Arsenal's previous summer spending reached £250 million, leading to speculation that they might need to offload players, including Gabriel Martinelli and possibly Gabriel Jesus, to facilitate new acquisitions.
