Milan Momcilovic, Former Iowa State Star, Transfers to Kentucky
Milan Momcilovic, a former standout for Iowa State's basketball team, has announced his transfer to the University of Kentucky. The 6-foot-8 shooting guard made his decision public on June 1, following his withdrawal from the NBA Draft before the deadline on May 27, which allowed him to retain his eligibility for college play.
Widely regarded as one of the top shooters in the nation, Momcilovic was the first player to enter the transfer portal this spring and has attracted interest from several programs, including Louisville, St. John's, and Arizona. His commitment to Kentucky was confirmed on social media by sports analyst Jeff Borzello.
Last season, the Cyclones, with Momcilovic's contributions, finished their campaign with an impressive 29-8 record and advanced to the Sweet 16. Notably, they defeated Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where Momcilovic scored 20 points, shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc.
During his junior year at Iowa State, Momcilovic was named to the All-Big 12 second team, averaging 16.9 points per game and boasting an overall shooting percentage of 50.6%. He also led the nation with 136 three-pointers made, breaking an Iowa State single-season record previously held by Dedric Willoughby.
The transition back to Iowa State appeared unlikely for Momcilovic, as the Cyclones are in the midst of rebuilding their roster with five new transfers for the upcoming season. Coach T.J. Otzelberger mentioned the team's current roster plans, noting, "You never want to say never... but at this point, we're looking at our roster like we have our team in place and we're moving forward."
