Mitchell Athletes Excel at Doug Markworth State Farm Tennis Tournament

MITCHELL — The atmosphere at Hitchcock Park was electric on Saturday as athletes showcased their skills in the 2026 Doug Markworth State Farm Tennis Tournament, competing in a variety of singles and doubles events. The tournament featured seven singles divisions and four doubles divisions, drawing competitors from across the region.

In the French Open singles category, Dawson Adams triumphed after a thrilling semifinal against Cooper Star, winning 8-6, and then taking the championship match against Matthew Mauszycki with an 8-4 score. Star came back strong to claim third place by defeating Simon Wiese 8-6. The Miami Open singles division saw Trace Peterson maintain an undefeated streak, finishing 3-0, and sealing his victory with an 8-4 win over Seth Sieber.

Sydney Bohle shone in the U.S. Open singles bracket, finishing with a flawless record of 3-0, highlighted by an impressive 8-1 victory against Harper Weisenburger in the finals. Meanwhile, Jacob Delehant also excelled in the Wimbledon singles division, ending his day with a perfect 3-0 record, culminating in an 8-4 win over Liam Schiefen.

In doubles action, the Wimbledon doubles title went to the duo of Dawson Adams and Simon Wiese, who achieved a 3-0 record, including an 8-3 victory over Dayton Adams and Talon Fenski. The Australian Open doubles division was dominated by Brooke Steidl and Mallory Buenzow, who also finished unbeaten, defeating Gabbie Thompson and Zoey Zomer 8-4 in their third-round match.

This tournament showcases the growing talent in the area, following the impressive performance of Mitchell High School’s tennis team, which recently secured the team title in the Futures Tournament on May 16 at the same venue.
