Monroe St. Mary CC and Olivet Claim Titles at MHSAA Division 3 Track and Field Championships
The MHSAA hosted its Division 3 track and field state championships on Saturday, May 30, at Kent City High School. The event culminated with Monroe St. Mary Catholic High School winning the boys team championship with a total of 39 points, while Olivet secured the girls team title, amassing 82 points.
In the individual events, notable performances included Wyatt Dehring from Clinton, who took first place in the boys 100 meters with a time of 10.75 seconds. Giuliana Nastale from Erie Mason triumphed in the girls 100 meters, clocking in at 11.90 seconds. Both athletes showcased their speed and skill on the track.
In the 200 meters, Dennis Jackson of Detroit Edison set the pace for the boys, finishing in 21.41 seconds, while Olivet's Celina Sinclair matched Nastale's performance by also winning her event at 24.91 seconds. The standout performances continued as Jackson again excelled in the 400 meters with a time of 48.11 seconds.
The distance events were equally competitive, with Landon Rogers from River Valley winning the boys 800 meters in 1:56.15 and Grace Wonch of Lansing Catholic finishing the girls 1600 meters in a remarkable 4:58.84. In the field events, Isaac French from Montague dominated the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 1 inch, while Addyson Stiverson of Montrose excelled in the girls shot put with a distance of 55 feet, 6.5 inches.
The championships highlighted the talent and dedication of Michigan's high school athletes, showcasing their hard work throughout the season. With numerous records and personal bests achieved, the event served as a fitting conclusion to the track and field season.
