MSU basketball leads throughout, earns impressive road win at Indiana
Michigan State basketball completed the Hoosier state sweep on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans looked like one of the best teams in the country, with an impressive road performance to knock off a desperate Indiana team from Assembly Hall. The Spartans essentially led the entire way, en route to a 77-64 victory over Indiana. This win comes on the heels of winning at top 10 Purdue earlier this week.
Michigan State came ready to play in the first half, especially on the offensive end of the floor. The Spartans led throughout the first half, knocking down 7 of 13 three-point attempts, and getting double-digit points totals out of both Jaxon Kohler and Kur Teng in the first 20 minutes. But Indiana continued to hang with the Spartans, trimming a double-digit lead to only eight at the break. Michigan State led 45-37 at the break.
The second half included some runs from Indiana but the Spartans' lead never faded thanks to impressive shooting throughout the game. Michigan State never trailed in the second half, and ultimately utilized its depth to pull away for a convincing road victory.
Kohler and Teng were the stars for the Spartans in the victory, but Jeremey Fears Jr. also was incredible for Michigan State. Kohler finished the game with 21 points and 13 rebounds, Teng knocked down six three-pointers to finish with 18 points and Fears had 21 points and 9 assists for a near double-double.
With the win, Michigan State improves to 23-5 overall and 14-4 in Big Ten play. The Spartans are considered a near lock for a triple-bye in the Big Ten Tournament with the win over the Hoosiers, and should see their seed line in the NCAA Tournament move up after a great week of hoops.
Michigan State will return home for their final game at the Breslin Center this season as their next game. The Spartans will host Rutgers on Thursday, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
