Nets Eye Potential Trade-Up in 2026 NBA Draft
The Brooklyn Nets emerged from the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery with the sixth overall pick, despite having the best odds for the top selection. This outcome has sparked conversations about whether the Nets might target a specific player or consider trading back. However, there is growing speculation that they may attempt to move up in the draft.
ESPN's NBA analysts suggested, "Brooklyn should make up for its bad luck on lottery night by pushing in a big pile of chips to target Cameron Boozer as a frontcourt linchpin and marketable face of the franchise." While some voices in the league advocate for trading back to accumulate more picks, others emphasize the importance of not missing out on elite talent in this draft class.
Despite making headlines last year by selecting five players in the first round, the Nets are still searching for a definitive team identity. According to ESPN's insiders, the addition of Boozer, who possesses both on-court talent and off-court appeal, could be crucial for the franchise. They noted, "The price to move up in this draft could be steep given the NBA's draft reforms, which go into effect in 2027, but Boozer proved to be a high-reward, low-risk prospect during his sensational freshman season."
Should the Nets pursue a trade-up, a potential deal with the Memphis Grizzlies for the No. 3 pick has been proposed. ESPN forecasts that Brooklyn would trade their No. 6 pick along with first-round selections in 2028 and 2030 to secure the chance to draft Boozer.
Coming off a remarkable freshman year, Boozer averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game, with shooting percentages of 55.6% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range. Given his status as a generational talent, it's understandable why ESPN encourages the Nets to make a substantial effort to acquire him.
