Nets' Jordi Fernandez Reflects on Coaching Growth Amid Rebuilding Phase

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez has garnered attention from his peers across the NBA during his two years at the helm, despite the team navigating a significant rebuilding phase. As the Nets aim to transition into a new era of competitive basketball, Fernandez shared insights about his personal development over the past season.

"Probably controlling my emotions with the results. Understanding that wins and losses for you are not just understandings, it's very pretty to say, but to actually emotionally live with it day-to-day, it's not easy," Fernandez remarked in a recent conversation on the "Nets Pod" with Sarah Kustok. He elaborated on the challenges of managing the impact of frequent losses during this transformative period for the franchise.

Throughout the interview, Fernandez highlighted the progress of the team's younger players, noting that they collectively logged an impressive 6,400 minutes on the court—potentially the highest for any rookie class in NBA history. "You see the young guys get better," he stated, praising the individual strengths of players from the 2025 draft class, such as Egor's shooting and Nolan's playmaking abilities.

Fernandez's reflections underscore a broader goal for the Nets, who have struggled with a combined record of 46-118 (.280) over the last two seasons. The organization's primary focus remains on nurturing its young talent, with particular emphasis on the development of players like Egor Demin and Nolan Traore.

Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, Fernandez hopes that the insights gained through his experiences will better equip him to guide the team as they integrate new rookies and continue their growth journey.
