Nets May Pursue Offer Sheet for Nuggets' Peyton Watson

The Brooklyn Nets are eyeing potential roster improvements after a disappointing 2025-26 NBA season, where they ended with a 20-62 record. With the No. 6 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft, the Nets are not only looking to add new talent through the draft but may also explore options in free agency, particularly targeting Denver Nuggets forward Peyton Watson.

According to Grant Hughes from Bleacher Report, while it's uncommon for teams to issue offer sheets, the Nets might take that risk. "This is definitely a bold prediction given the rarity of offer sheets these days, but the Brooklyn Nets seem more likely than most to buck the trend," Hughes stated. He anticipates that the Nets will pursue a restricted free agent this offseason, signaling a proactive approach to enhancing their roster.

Watson, who is just 23 years old, had a standout season, averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, with impressive shooting percentages of 49.1% from the field and 41.1% from beyond the arc. As a restricted free agent, the Nuggets can match any offer sheet he receives, which makes retaining him more likely.

The Nets are projected to have around $47.9 million in salary cap space, providing them with the financial flexibility to make a competitive offer. If Watson seeks a salary higher than what the Nuggets are willing to extend, Brooklyn could capitalize on that situation. With the summer still ahead, general manager Sean Marks and his team have ample time to evaluate their options in free agency, and Watson could very well be among their targets.
