Wan'Dale Robinson Embraces New Jersey Number to Honor Late Friend

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson recently appeared on the Up & Adams Show, where he shared insights about his new look and jersey number as he embarks on a fresh chapter in his NFL career. After a remarkable 2025 season with the New York Giants, where he made history as the shortest player to record a 1,000-yard receiving season, Robinson signed a lucrative four-year, $70 million contract with the Titans back in March.

The 5-foot-8 slot receiver is now donning the number 4 in his new Titans blue uniform, a departure from the number 17 he wore with the Giants. While one might assume that a $12 million signing bonus would allow him to negotiate for his desired number, Robinson clarified that this was not the case. Instead, he expressed a personal connection to the number 4, stating, "I didn’t want it. I was wanting a single digit, and then also my late friend Rondale Moore, he wore number four, so that was kind of the reasoning behind me getting that number, you know, just kind of to honor him."

Robinson's tribute comes in memory of Rondale Moore, who played at Purdue and was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Moore tragically passed away in February at the young age of 25, leaving a profound impact on the NFL community. Both Robinson and Moore were high school teammates in Kentucky, further deepening Robinson's desire to honor his friend with the new number.

When asked about fellow Titans receiver Carnell Tate's attempts to secure the number 17, Robinson mentioned, "I don’t know about Carnell and exactly what went on with him and Chim (Dike), but yeah, I was good with leaving 17 in the past." Tate himself confirmed that he did not pursue the number from Dike, who currently wears it.

As the Titans introduce new branding and uniforms, it appears that Dike's retention of the number 17 may be tied to the team's marketing strategy, especially considering the substantial signing bonuses for both Robinson and Tate. Nonetheless, Robinson's heartfelt tribute highlights the personal significance behind his new number as he steps into his role with Tennessee.
