New Developments Enhance Seaside's Ridgeline Trail

John Meyer, alongside his Ridgeline Club, has recently expanded Seaside High School's Ridgeline Trail, adding a new feature to this outdoor space. A retired educator, Meyer envisioned a trail suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and running, aimed at providing local cyclists with a venue to hone their skills. This trail has also become integral to the local cross country scene, culminating in the Ridgeline Invitational, which will celebrate its fourth year in the fall of 2026.

Throughout the trail's development, Meyer has actively sought community input to enhance the trail's quality. As interest grew for a more challenging route, Meyer and the Ridgeline Club teamed up with Home Depot to introduce 38 feet of decking over the spring ditch at Stinson Creekside Trail, a popular side loop of the main trail. "Home Depot has in the past done a lot of work with veterans and their homes," Meyer noted. The collaboration began when Arthur Koustik, the assistant store manager, offered assistance after learning about the project.

On May 14, the teams from Home Depot and the Ridgeline Club commenced construction on the new Rimshot Deck, leveraging the nine-and-a-half acres of land available. "Home Depot built everything," Meyer said, adding that afterward, they celebrated their achievements with pizza and remarks from Ridgeline Club President Chantrell Lee, who expressed gratitude to the volunteers.

Meyer emphasized the importance of the Ridgeline Trail, stating it is the only legitimate mountain biking trail on the North Coast. He hopes the addition of the wooden deck will attract even more biking enthusiasts. "This trail is definitely geared more towards biking than the jumps," he explained, mentioning that the owner of A’s Bike Shop in Seaside is eager to organize a race featuring his riders. "We want to have more people ride it, since the more people ride it, the better the trail will get."
