New Dolphins EDGE Trey Moore makes a lot of sense for Miami
The Miami Dolphins started Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft, selecting Texas linebacker/edge Trey Moore from Texas. A need at pass-rusher, Moore has the versatility to play off-ball linebacker as well as edge as a third-down pass rusher.
From a measurable standpoint, his profile fits general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan’s tendency with Moore, having a Relative Athletic Score of 8.87, which was ranked seventh at the position. He has a 4.54-second 40-yard dash and a vertical of 38.5 inches, both in the 90th percentile among his position group. Moore’s main asset is a vicious spin move in getting to the quarterback.
Moore started his college career at the University of Texas – San Antonio in Conference USA and was extremely productive in his three seasons there. In 2022 and 2023, he totaled 104 combined tackles, 22 sacks, 35.5 tackles for loss, nine passes defensed, an interception, three forced fumbles and two recoveries. He led the conference in tackles for loss in each of those two seasons and led in sacks in 2023 with 14.
He transferred to Texas in 2024 and in his two seasons totaling 70 tackles, 14.5 for loss, 8.5 sacks, four passes defended, and two forced fumbles. In his senior season in 2025 had 35 combined tackles, five sacks, three passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
Moore is a smart kid who was a finalist for the William Campbell Trophy, which is also known as the Academic Heisman. He can be an instant impact player for the Dolphins in a thin area of the team.
