Northville Claims Back-to-Back Titles at Division 1 Girls Tennis Finals

This past weekend, the Greater Midland Tennis Center hosted the MHSAA Girls Tennis State Finals, where Northville once again showcased its prowess by securing the championship in Division 1 for the second consecutive year. Entering the tournament as the top-ranked team in the state, Northville achieved a total of 27 points, outpacing Utica Eisenhower, which finished with 23 points.

Northville's dominance was evident in the doubles categories, where they swept the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 doubles events. The duo of Francine Ong and Sravya Doppalapudi, the top seeds, triumphed at No. 2 doubles, overcoming Novi's Emily Backus and Sruthi Karthik with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. This win marked the second consecutive championship for Ong and Doppalapudi, who had previously claimed victory at No. 3 doubles last year.

Other notable performances included Lucia Lachapelle and Aadya Pullalarevu, who redeemed an earlier season loss to win the No. 3 doubles title, and Emma Murphy and Michelle Lee, who clinched the No. 4 doubles championship with a close win against Troy's Arya Iyer and Vibha Krishna. Northville's singles lineup featured Sophia Shipway, Talia Nishanian, Grace Xu, and Sana Panchal, while their No. 1 doubles team of Emmi Dober and Makenzie McPhail reached the semifinals.

In singles competition, Clarkston’s Kayla Lemke captured the No. 1 singles title after Emerson Jones of Saline was forced to withdraw due to injury in the finals. Lemke had an impressive journey to the title, defeating several ranked players along the way, including Troy's Julia Xiao. Utica Eisenhower also made its mark, with Morgan Emerick winning her second consecutive title at No. 2 singles and Alexis Gabriel and Kara Lu taking the No. 1 doubles championship.

Other highlights included Aarna Betala from Portage Central winning at No. 3 singles and Rochester's Jilly Knoester claiming the No. 4 singles championship. The competition was fierce, with Portage Central and Holland West Ottawa finishing tied for fifth place, followed closely by Rochester in seventh.
