Creighton University Unveils New Baseball Practice Field Ahead of College World Series

OMAHA — Creighton University proudly announced the inauguration of its new baseball practice facility, which has been developed with support from a Nebraska state grant. This expansive 193,000-square-foot all-turf field, located at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Cuming Street in downtown Omaha, is set to serve as a primary training ground for teams gearing up for the NCAA Men’s College World Series, commencing this Friday.

The creation of this state-of-the-art facility was bolstered by a $30 million shovel-ready grant from the State of Nebraska, contributing to both the baseball field and the Creighton Softball Stadium, which opened last year. Additional funding was provided by the College World Series of Omaha Inc.

Designed to mirror the nearby Charles Schwab Field, Creighton’s home ballpark, the new practice field aims to provide visiting teams with a familiar environment as they prepare for the "Greatest Show on Dirt," as described in a statement from the university.

The unveiling event featured several notable figures, including Creighton President Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, and Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr., all of whom participated in a ceremonial pitch. Young players from local youth teams, including the Millard Elite National 14-and-under team and the Omaha Stampede Navy 11-and-under team, also showcased their skills during the festivities.

In addition to serving the university's baseball teams, the new field will be accessible for community events and Creighton’s intramural and club sports, promoting engagement and participation in baseball across various levels.
