Ogunbowale Shines with 30 Points as Wings Defeat Sparks 104-96
LOS ANGELES (AP) — In an impressive display of skill, Arike Ogunbowale netted 30 points and connected on six three-pointers, leading the Dallas Wings to a 104-96 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night. Paige Bueckers also made headlines with her standout performance, scoring 18 points and achieving a career-high 14 assists, tying Ogunbowale's franchise record for assists in a game.
Jessica Shepard contributed significantly to the win, recording a double-double with a career-best 22 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. This triumph marks the Wings' fourth consecutive win, bringing their season record to 7-3 and showcasing their best start over the first 10 games since the team moved from Tulsa in 2016.
Ogunbowale made a critical play late in the game, reclaiming her own missed shot to give Dallas a narrow 99-95 lead. Maddy Siegrist, who scored 10 of her total 16 points in the fourth quarter, added a pivotal putback with just over 50 seconds remaining, extending the lead to 101-96. Bueckers then solidified the victory by sinking two free throws with 47.1 seconds left on the clock.
For the Sparks (4-6), Kelsey Plum was a standout performer, scoring 27 points after returning from an ankle injury that sidelined her for three games. Additional contributions came from Ariel Atkins with 16 points, Dearica Hamby with 15, and Nneka Ogwumike, who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Cameron Brink added 10 points off the bench.
Los Angeles held a slim 55-54 lead at halftime, aided by a buzzer-beater from Bueckers that was later overturned after review. Unfortunately for the Wings, guard Odyssey Sims did not return to the game following a left ankle injury sustained in the first half.
Looking ahead, the Wings are set to face the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, while the Sparks will host the Portland team on Sunday.
