Orioles Overcome Mariners with Late Rally, Win 7-5

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles triumphed over the Seattle Mariners 7-5 on Thursday night, fueled by a strong third inning that included a home run from Pete Alonso. The Orioles managed to fend off three home runs from Seattle, ensuring they split the four-game series against the AL West leaders.

Adley Rutschman made a significant contribution with three RBIs, while Colton Cowser added a solo home run, bolstering Baltimore's offensive efforts. Seattle's Cole Young, Luke Raley, and Dominic Canzone each hit home runs off Orioles starter Kyle Bradish, who has been consistent in his previous outings, allowing no more than two home runs in his last 80 starts.

Bradish pitched just four innings before being replaced by Tyler Wells (1-1), who delivered three hitless innings. In a critical moment during the eighth inning, Grant Wolfram managed to retire Colt Emerson with two runners on base, while Andrew Kittredge secured his first save of the season in the ninth.

The game began with Young hitting a leadoff home run on the third pitch, marking his first career homer. After Woo (5-5) started strong by retiring the first six batters, Cowser ignited the Orioles' offense with his home run in the third inning. Rutschman's two-run double and Alonso's subsequent homer expanded their lead to 6-1.

Seattle responded with Raley’s 14th homer and Canzone’s back-to-back shot, narrowing the gap. Julio Rodriguez added an RBI single, bringing the score to 6-5, but Rutschman answered with a run-scoring single in the fifth to secure the victory for Baltimore.

The Mariners will head south to take on the Nationals, featuring Bryce Miller (2-0, 1.33 ERA) on the mound Friday night, while the Orioles will host the San Diego Padres and former teammate Manny Machado.
