Orioles Rally Late to Snatch Victory from Blue Jays in Thrilling Finish
BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Orioles demonstrated that it's never too late to turn things around as they faced off against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. After two days of struggling to score, the Orioles broke out in a big way during the final inning, showcasing a dramatic comeback that saw them score five runs and win the game 6-5.
Despite leaving six runners stranded and hitting into four double plays earlier in the game, the Orioles found their rhythm in the ninth, with seven consecutive batters reaching base. Pete Alonso capped off the rally with a single to right field, clinching the game and marking his first walk-off hit as an Oriole. Prior to this, Baltimore had not won a game after trailing by four or more runs in the ninth inning since April 2013.
The comeback began when Blue Jays pitcher Jeff Hoffman hit Coby Mayo with a pitch. Leody Taveras quickly followed with a triple, bringing Mayo home. Jackson Holliday then contributed with a single, scoring Taveras. Colton Cowser’s double advanced Holliday, and walks to Taylor Ward and Gunnar Henderson allowed more runs to cross the plate. Connor Seabold replaced Hoffman but walked Adley Rutschman, bringing in Cowser before Alonso delivered the decisive hit.
Brandon Young had a solid outing for the Orioles, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits over three innings. The team initially scored in the third inning thanks to a single from Gunnar Henderson, but defensive errors led to a slip in momentum, allowing the Blue Jays to take a brief lead.
As the game progressed, the Orioles struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving them in a precarious position until their explosive ninth inning. The victory marked the team's third walk-off win in just a week, underscoring a newfound resilience as they look to build on this momentum.
