Penguins Defenseman Alexander Alexeyev Set to Join KHL Team Salavat on Two-Year Deal

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Alexander Alexeyev is preparing to depart the franchise following the conclusion of the current season. Reports from Hockey News Hub indicate that Alexeyev is on the brink of finalizing a two-year contract with KHL team Salavat.

After joining the Penguins as a free agent last July, Alexeyev has spent the 2025-26 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, where the team is currently competing in the Eastern Conference Final. Throughout the regular season, he recorded three goals and 12 points over the course of 38 games and has contributed one goal and five points in 10 Calder Cup Playoff appearances.

Before his time with the Penguins, the 2018 NHL Draft's 31st overall pick played 80 games for the Washington Capitals, achieving one goal and eight points. His transition to the KHL marks a significant step in his career.
