Adolis Garcia raised his batting average on Tuesday before the Philadelphia Phillies even started playing baseball.

That was thanks to a generous scoring change handed down by Major League Baseball involving a play in the weekend series by Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez.

Garcia hit a weak grounder to the left side, and Ramirez had trouble getting it out of his glove. He eventually flubbed a throw toward first base, Garcia reached, and an error was called.

The call was eventually reversed, though.

Here's the play:

It seems like a pretty bold overturn.

Ramirez probably makes that play the majority of the time. Garcia isn't that fast that there was any question of whether a clean scoop and throw would get him.

But that's what they went with.

It raises Garcia's average by five points and removes an error from Ramirez.

If anything, it feels like it's getting harder for fielders to get errors. This play certainly makes it seem that way.

But Garcia won't be complaining. He'll take the extra hit for sure.
