Phillies Overcome Dodgers with Late-Inning Heroics from Sosa

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In a thrilling matchup, the Philadelphia Phillies surged past the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Saturday night, thanks to Edmundo Sosa's decisive two-run homer in the eighth inning. This victory halted the Dodgers’ six-game winning streak.

During a pivotal eighth inning, Bryce Harper contributed with an RBI single, helping the Phillies score three runs against left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott with two outs. Alec Bohm also made an impact earlier in the game, launching a home run that set the tone.

Jesus Luzardo pitched effectively for the Phillies, allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings, while Orion Kerkering (3-0) claimed the win after surrendering one run in his inning of relief. Jhoan Duran closed the game, earning his 12th save. This game marked Kerkering's first appearance in Los Angeles since a costly error in last year's playoffs.

The Dodgers, who had been performing well with just two losses in their previous 16 games, received offensive support from Alex Call, Santiago Espinal, and Mookie Betts, who each drove in runs. Roki Sasaki allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings, but Scott (1-2) struggled, giving up three runs in his brief outing.

Bohm initially put the Phillies ahead with a 406-foot blast in the second inning. The Dodgers responded quickly, tying the game with an RBI single from Call, and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth after a series of plays that included a double from Call and an error by Adolis Garcia.

Betts extended the Dodgers’ lead to 3-1 in the seventh with another RBI single, but the late rally from the Phillies proved too much to overcome. Looking ahead, the Phillies are set to start Andrew Painter (1-5, 5.40 ERA) against the Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto (4-4, 3.09 ERA) on Sunday.
