Prince Harry Joins Star-Studded Crowd for Historic Knicks Championship Game
In a surprising turn of events, Prince Harry was among the notable faces at the New York Knicks versus San Antonio Spurs championship game in San Antonio on Saturday. The royal attended Game 5 alongside JP Lane, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, who has earned six gold medals at the Warrior Games, a prestigious adaptive sports competition for service members facing health challenges.
The prince's visit coincided with the Warrior Games taking place in San Antonio from June 13 to June 20. Lane has been cited by Harry as a key inspiration behind the Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded military personnel. Reports suggest that his attendance at the NBA game followed an invitation from NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, although it remains unclear which team he supports.
The star-studded gathering also included Timothée Chalamet, who celebrated the Knicks' stunning Game 4 victory with a shirtless display. At the championship game, he enthusiastically declared, “Way rather this than the Oscars! Come on, baby! Knicks are champions, baby!” Chalamet, a three-time Oscar nominee, had recently come close to winning for his role in “Marty Supreme.” In an unexpected twist, the Knicks managed to secure their first championship title in 53 years, despite being viewed as underdogs.
Ben Stiller, a lifelong Knicks supporter, was present at the Frost Bank Center, reportedly filming for a forthcoming documentary. He was joined by renowned director Spike Lee, who brought along cast members John Turturro and Giancarlo Esposito. Tracy Morgan was spotted courtside, while Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun were also in the audience.
While some fans couldn't attend the historic game, they shared their excitement from afar. Mariska Hargitay, known for her roles in “Every Brilliant Thing” and “Law & Order: SVU,” celebrated the Knicks' victory on social media by posting the New York Times cover honoring the win, along with a heartfelt message thanking NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson for his contributions to the team’s success.
