Purdue Football Enhances Defensive Lineup with Commitment from Owen Roberts
WEST LAFAYETTE − The Purdue football team, under the guidance of defensive coordinator Kevin Kane, is working to forge a defensive identity centered around an aggressive, attacking style. A crucial component of this strategy involves putting significant pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and the Boilermakers took a step forward in this direction on Wednesday with the commitment of edge rusher Owen Roberts from the class of 2027.
Roberts, who hails from York High School near Chicago, showcased impressive stats last season, recording 61 tackles, including 14 for loss, along with 2 sacks and 16 quarterback hurries, as noted on Hudl. Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 230 pounds, he is recognized as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and had attracted interest from four other Big Ten schools, as well as offers from Kansas, Kansas State, and Vanderbilt.
With Roberts on board, he becomes the sixth known commitment in Purdue's 2027 recruiting class and the second addition to the defensive roster in just two weeks, following linebacker Ethan Reyna from Andrean. This continued effort in recruiting signals Purdue's commitment to strengthening its defensive capabilities as it moves forward.
