Rafael Leao Expresses Desire for New Challenge Amid Milan Uncertainty
Rafael Leao has made it clear that he is contemplating a departure from AC Milan, expressing his ambition for a fresh start in a different league. In a recent interview, he stated, “I think I’ve given everything I have” during his time with the club and emphasized his desire for a “new challenge.”
This comes at a time of instability for the Rossoneri, who currently find themselves without key leadership roles, including a head coach and sporting director. Reports are surfacing that several prominent players, such as Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot, may be considering their futures, with Leao among them.
After spending seven seasons at San Siro, where he won a Scudetto and was named MVP for the 2021-22 season, Leao’s recent performance has raised questions. His move from the left wing to a center-forward position under coach Massimiliano Allegri in 2025-26 did not yield the expected results. With the club missing out on Champions League football next season, this could be an opportune moment for him to seek a new adventure.
Leao, a Portugal international, has openly discussed his aspirations to compete in a different league, aiming to maintain his presence at the highest levels of European football. “I aspire to have a new challenge in a new league,” he remarked, adding that he has fond memories of his time at Milan, a club that supported him through various challenges.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Leao is currently focused on the upcoming 2026 World Cup with Portugal. “The most important thing for me now is the World Cup,” he said, indicating his intent to contribute significantly to his national team before making any decisions about his career.
