Ravens' Calais Campbell Indicates This Season Might Be His Last

Baltimore Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell is contemplating retirement as he embarks on what he believes may be his final NFL season. “I always tell myself — and this year I feel it as strongly as ever — that this is probably going to be my last year,” Campbell shared after practice during the team's minicamp on Tuesday.

At 39 years old, Campbell returned to the Ravens on a one-year contract after spending the previous season with the Arizona Cardinals. As he approaches his 40th birthday in September, he continues to be a highly regarded figure in the league, both for his skills on the field and his leadership off it.

With a career total of 960 tackles and 117 sacks, Campbell is just four games away from breaking Jim Marshall's record for defensive linemen, having played in 278 regular-season contests. Despite nearing the end of a storied 19-year career, he demonstrated his ability to compete at a high level last season, starting all 17 games with 43 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

A six-time Pro Bowler and former First-Team All-Pro, Campbell has the credentials that could merit Hall of Fame consideration. Over his extensive career, he has played for multiple franchises, including the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Atlanta Falcons.

While Campbell is currently focused on contributing to a Ravens team aiming for a championship, it seems that he is prepared to embrace what could be his last season in the NFL.
