Ravens named potential landing spot for veteran WR Deebo Samuel
The Baltimore Ravens spent the offseason reshaping their offense, but one national outlet believes another intriguing addition could still be available. USA Today's Jacob Camenker recently identified the Ravens as one of the best landing spots for veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel, citing Baltimore's evolving offensive philosophy and the unique versatility the former All-Pro could bring to the unit.
The Ravens could use a proven, No. 2 receiver across from Zay Flowers. They have been willing to add veteran receivers to the fold in recent seasons – just as they did with DeAndre Hopkins in 2025 – so perhaps Samuel could be next in line. Samuel's ability to serve as an out-of-the-backfield pass-catcher could appeal to Baltimore, as Derrick Henry has only twice topped 20 receptions in a season during his 10-year NFL career.
Samuel enters free agency after spending the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders following a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. The veteran receiver recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games while continuing to demonstrate the run-after-catch ability that has defined much of his NFL career. Last season, 63.7 percent of Samuel's receiving production came after the catch, reinforcing his reputation as one of football's most dangerous open-field playmakers.
While Samuel is no longer viewed as a traditional No. 1 receiver, his skill set remains unique. During his seven NFL seasons, Samuel has developed into a versatile offensive weapon capable of lining up outside, in the slot, and in the backfield. He has also carried the football 219 times for 1,218 yards and 21 touchdowns, creating matchup problems for defenses in multiple ways.
That versatility could align well with the direction Baltimore appears to be heading under offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. General manager Eric DeCosta recently outlined an offensive vision centered on flexibility, disguise, and personnel versatility. The Ravens expect to utilize more three- and four-receiver formations while relying on multiple tight ends and interchangeable playmakers to prevent defenses from identifying tendencies before the snap.
Samuel's ability to function as both a receiver and runner fits that blueprint. The question, however, is whether Baltimore has room for another veteran pass catcher. The Ravens already feature Pro Bowl receiver Zay Flowers and veteran Rashod Bateman. The organization also used the 2026 NFL Draft to add Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane, while Devontez Walker continues to push for a larger role as he enters his third season.
Those additions suggest Baltimore is committed to developing younger talent.
Still, Samuel's experience and versatility could provide value in a championship window built around Lamar Jackson. At 30 years old, he may no longer be the player who posted 1,405 receiving yards during his All-Pro campaign in 2021, but he remains capable of creating explosive plays and contributing in multiple facets of an offense.
Whether Baltimore ultimately pursues Samuel remains to be seen.
What is clear is that the Ravens are building a more diverse and unpredictable offense. If the organization decides it needs another proven playmaker, Samuel's unique skill set could make him an intriguing option as training camp approaches.
