Red Sox Acquire Left-Handed Reliever as Brayan Bello is Optioned

The Boston Red Sox have made a strategic move by acquiring a left-handed pitcher from the Pittsburgh Pirates, shortly after their 8-2 defeat to the Baltimore Orioles. This transaction involved the team optioning veteran starter Brayan Bello, as reported by Ari Alexander from 7News.

The newly acquired pitcher, Joe La Sorsa, has a diverse history in Major League Baseball, having previously played for several teams including the Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals, and Cincinnati Reds, before joining the Pirates and now the Red Sox. La Sorsa, who represented Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic alongside Greg Weissert, has recorded a career ERA of 5.21 over 46 games since his debut this year.

La Sorsa's trade comes after he activated an upward mobility clause in his contract with the Pirates, which allowed him to seek opportunities elsewhere. According to reports, multiple teams expressed interest in him, but the Red Sox were able to finalize the deal.

With La Sorsa joining the 26-man roster, he will take over Bello's position immediately. However, it remains uncertain how the Red Sox will address the vacancy in their starting rotation. Interim manager Chad Tracy has until Tuesday to determine the next steps for the team.
