Rinus VeeKay Claims Impressive Fourth Place in Thrilling WWTR IndyCar Showdown

Rinus VeeKay came close to securing a podium finish during a dramatic IndyCar Series race that wrapped up just after midnight at World Wide Technology Raceway. The Dutch driver, who began the race in 13th position, showcased a remarkable performance, aided significantly by the skilled pit crew of his #76 Juncos Hollinger Racing (JHR) Chevrolet. Their efforts helped him navigate through the field, placing him in the top five with 57 laps remaining.

Throughout the race, VeeKay closely pursued competitors Christian Rasmussen from ECR and Marcus Ericsson from Andretti Global, who dominated with a race-high 114 laps led. Team Penske's Josef Newgarden ultimately took the victory, leaving VeeKay to finish fourth, 3.4347 seconds behind Newgarden's winning time. This marks not only VeeKay's best result of the season but also the top finish for JHR since Conor Daly's podium in Milwaukee back in 2024.

Reflecting on the race, VeeKay expressed satisfaction with the team's effort: "We had a good night. We had good pace, and we moved through traffic. Didn't have a lot of lucky breaks to start the race, so kind of cycled back all the time, and the last few stops we hit the right thing. We did a great job as a team. JHR Chevy was very good." He acknowledged feeling slightly disappointed about finishing fourth, stating, “Just a bit too much understeer at the end there, being side by side with Christian (Rasmussen). Couldn't get it done. Being a race car driver, you're bummed with fourth place, because you go home somewhat empty handed. But still, really, really good job by the team.”

VeeKay also reminisced about his earlier challenge at Phoenix Raceway in March, where he was unable to capitalize on a similar pace due to an incident with Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing. “You know, this is how we should have raced in Phoenix,” he remarked. “Unfortunately, we didn't get to do that. Just really happy to show that pace, that strength for such a young and small team now. We're beating the big boys right now."
