Russell Wilson Announces Retirement, Transitioning to CBS Sports
The Arizona Cardinals will no longer face Russell Wilson, as the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback has officially announced his retirement from professional football. Wilson, who spent a significant portion of his career as a division rival, has opted to join CBS Sports as a television analyst, contributing to "The NFL Today" pregame show.
A 10-time Pro Bowler, Wilson led the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances, securing a championship during his tenure. He made his NFL debut against the Cardinals in 2012 and concluded his career with Seattle in a game against them at the end of the 2021 season. After being traded to the Denver Broncos, Wilson played for two seasons before stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, where he served as a backup quarterback.
In his 20 games against the Cardinals, Wilson boasted an 11-8-1 record, completing 62.4% of his passes for a total of 4,428 yards, alongside 32 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also faced a considerable challenge from Arizona's defense, being sacked 64 times throughout his career matchups against them. Additionally, he added 569 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals.
Though his last few years in the league were less than stellar, Wilson's decade with the Seahawks solidified his reputation as one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks.
