Rutgers football has welcomed its first commitment of the June 6th recruiting weekend, with safety Dextavion Reese from Georgia announcing his decision to join the Scarlet Knights. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 185 pounds, Reese hails from Hephzibah High School in Georgia.

Reese's recruitment was spearheaded by new safeties coach Adam Cox, who served as his main point of contact throughout the process. He becomes the third safety to join Rutgers' 2027 recruiting class. Currently, Reese is ranked as the No. 87 safety in this class.

In choosing Rutgers, he turned down offers from several other programs, including Georgia Tech, South Florida, Connecticut, and Coastal Carolina. Nebraska also expressed interest in bringing him for an official visit prior to his commitment, but he ultimately decided on the Scarlet Knights, leading to the cancellation of any future visits.

According to 247sports, Reese holds a high three-star rating, while he remains unranked by ESPN and Rivals. For those interested, his junior year highlights can be viewed on Hudl.
