Rutgers Secures Commitment from Don Bosco WR Isaiah Alvarez for 2027 Class
Rutgers football has made a significant addition to its 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of Isaiah Alvarez, a standout wide receiver from Don Bosco. Alvarez made his announcement during a ceremony held on June 13, choosing to join head coach Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights.
At 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 175 pounds, Alvarez is regarded as a three-star recruit and ranks as the 20th best player in New Jersey for his class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the third wide receiver to join Rutgers’ recruiting class, following Jamar Taylor from Salesianum High School in Delaware and Arnold Mugerwa from Richland High School in Pennsylvania.
Alvarez selected Rutgers over several other competitive programs, including Michigan State, Nebraska, and Colorado, ultimately opting to remain closer to his roots. This commitment is crucial for Rutgers as it strengthens their receiving corps, a position that has flourished under the guidance of wide receivers coach Dave Brock.
The rise of KJ Duff, recognized as one of the premier receivers in the Big Ten and a potential first-round draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, has also played a role in attracting top-tier talent to Rutgers. Alvarez’s decision signals that the Scarlet Knights can still draw from New Jersey’s elite non-public schools, a notable feat in the current recruiting landscape influenced by financial incentives and NIL opportunities.
As one of the most pivotal recruits in Rutgers’ 2027 class, Alvarez’s commitment showcases the program's ongoing efforts to build a competitive team.
