Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Faces Injury Scans After Stormers Victory
South Africa's fly half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is poised to undergo scans to assess an ankle injury that he sustained during the Stormers' recent triumph over Cardiff. The Cape Town team secured their place in the semi-finals of the United Rugby Championship with a convincing 44-21 win at DHL Stadium, but the match may have come at a steep price for the young star.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu was injured while scoring a try and was later seen using crutches. Stormers head coach John Dobson expressed concern over the severity of the injury, stating, “It looks pretty serious, to be honest. He’s obviously going for a scan. The doctors have given me some feedback, but it looks like a proper ankle injury.” He noted that Feinberg-Mngomezulu had been cramping before the injury and appeared to be in discomfort as he attempted to recover.
“It’s a big blow. But whenever we take a knock, this group tends to pull together and fight," Dobson added. "We’ve lost probably the most in-form young player in world rugby the week before a semi-final, which is far from ideal. But the way Jurie Matthee is playing and the fight in this squad gives me confidence that we’ll find a way.”
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising talents in rugby, having firmly established himself as South Africa’s primary No 10 during an impressive 2025 season. His potential absence would be a significant setback for head coach Rassie Erasmus, especially with a busy year ahead that includes the Nations Championship and the inaugural Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against New Zealand.
The Springboks are set to kick off their Nations Championship against England in Johannesburg on July 4, with additional matches scheduled against Wales and Scotland. Later in the year, they will face the All Blacks in four Test matches. Meanwhile, back row player Kwagga Smith is also facing concerns over a serious knee injury, as reported from Japan.
The Stormers' next challenge will see them travel to Leinster for their semi-final next Saturday, while the Glasgow Warriors will host the Bulls.
