Section 9 Track and Field State Qualifier Seeding Announced
The Section 9 state qualifying track and field meet is set to take place on June 3 in Cornwall and June 4 in Goshen. Athletes aiming to compete in the state championships must either achieve a top placement or meet specific performance standards.
The seeding for the boys' events has been categorized into three classes: A, B, and C. In the 100-meter dash, each class has its top seed, as do the 200, 400, 800, 1,600, and 3,200-meter races. Additionally, hurdle events, relays, and field events such as high jump, long jump, and shot put also have designated top athletes across all classes.
In the pentathlon, Kenixander Vermenton from Washington leads Class A with a score of 3,328 points, followed by Hudson Stehle from FDR with 2,974 points. For Class B, Brevin Timm of Beacon tops the list with 3,126 points, while in Class C, Treyvon Hayden from Falls takes the lead with 2,622 points.
On the girls' side, similar event structures are in place. In the pentathlon, Avery Flynn from Washington is the top seed in Class A with 2,976 points, followed by Shayla Hache-Rose and Jael Street from Middletown. Laila Logan from Goshen leads Class B with 2,817 points, while Hannah Metawee from Onteora tops Class C with 2,262 points.
As the competition approaches, athletes are gearing up for a chance to showcase their skills and qualify for the prestigious state meet.
