Son Heung-min Shines with Two Goals in South Korea's 5-0 Victory Ahead of World Cup
In a convincing display, Son Heung-min netted two goals as South Korea triumphed over Trinidad and Tobago with a 5-0 scoreline in a friendly match on Saturday, marking his return to form ahead of the World Cup. The 33-year-old forward had been under scrutiny for his recent performance, having scored just twice for Los Angeles FC this season.
Son's last international goal came in a friendly against Bolivia back in November 2025, which added to the anticipation surrounding his performance. However, he showcased his skills at South Korea's training camp in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he led the team alongside fellow striker Cho Gue-sung, who also scored twice.
South Korea is gearing up for their World Cup journey, where they will compete in Group A against the Czech Republic, South Africa, and co-hosts Mexico. Their campaign kicks off against the Czech team in Guadalajara on June 11.
In the match, Son opened the scoring just before half-time, converting a low cross inside the penalty area. He swiftly added to the scoreline by converting a penalty kick, placing the ball firmly in the corner of the net. With this performance, he has now reached 56 goals in 144 appearances for his country, closing in on the record held by Cha Bum-kun.
