South Korean Duo Takes Narrow Lead at Dow Championship
In a thrilling third round at the Dow Championship held at Midland Country Club in Michigan, South Korea's Hye-Jin Choi and Hyo Joo Kim emerged at the top of the leaderboard with a solid 1-under-par score of 69. This performance brought their total to 10-under 200, placing them just one stroke ahead of American teammates Gina Kim and Yana Wilson, who recorded an even-par round of 70.
Alison Lee and Lilia Vu, another American pair, are in third place, sitting at 8-under 202 after carding a 1-under 69. The tournament, the only team event on the LPGA calendar, began with 72 teams competing. The 34 teams that made the 36-hole cut played in alternate shot format on Saturday and will switch to best ball for the final round on Sunday.
Choi expressed gratitude for the support they received, stating, "It definitely felt like a Korea team." The South Koreans managed four birdies despite battling windy conditions, although they faced some challenges with three bogies, including two on the par-5 holes. Kim and Wilson concluded their round by birdying the final hole, closing the gap to just one stroke behind the leaders.
Vu and Lee initially took a commanding lead at 11-under after a strong start, but a triple-bogey on the par-4 16th hole proved costly. Vu reflected on their strategy, saying, "If we want to win tomorrow we have to make a ton of birdies." Meanwhile, Choi also looked forward to the upcoming round, noting that the change in format would allow for a more individual approach.
In other tournament news, Jackson Suber took the lead in the RBC Canadian Open with a 4-under-par 66, putting him at 13-under overall. Several players, including Bud Cauley, are close behind as the competition heats up ahead of the final round. In the Champions Principal Charity Classic, Zach Johnson shot a remarkable 9-under 63, tying for the lead with Brett Quigley and Scott Hend.
