Sports brief: McClanahan resigns at West
West head boys basketball coach Caleb McClanahan, who had been West’s boys basketball coach since the 2020-21 season and guided the Senators from a 12-12 overall record in 2024-25 to a 19-7 mark and the program’s first-ever regional final appearance in 2025-26, resigned as the program’s head coach on Wednesday, as confirmed by McClanahan’s family on social media and in communication with the Daily Times from McClanahan.
McClanahan was named as the 2026 OHSAA Division VI Coach of the Year in addition to the District 14 Coaches Association Coach of the Year honors that he already accumulated in Division VI as well as at the OPSMA Division VI Southeast District level.
West, who went 18-5 in McClanahan’s first season as the head coach, went 19-7 in his last year coaching the program. The Senators won 11 consecutive games en route to reaching the OHSAA Division VI, Region 23 Finals.
McClanahan went 72-69 at West.
