Spurs Coach Emphasizes Offensive Strategy for Victor Wembanyama
In a recent discussion about the San Antonio Spurs' approach to their rookie star, Victor Wembanyama, head coach Mitch addressed the team's strategy regarding his shooting opportunities. "Games take on different personalities and different opportunities can show themselves early, right," he explained during the interview.
Mitch clarified that the coaching staff has never discouraged Wembanyama from taking open three-point shots. "We never told Victor, don't shoot an open three-point shot if you're open, even if it's early in the game or whatnot," he stated. The focus, however, remains on attacking the basket and applying pressure in the paint.
He elaborated on how this strategy can lead to various scoring opportunities, mentioning that when Wembanyama drives to the rim, defenders often have to commit extra players to him, which can create openings for his teammates. "We just have to stay a little bit more stubborn and disciplined, trying to attack in that way," Mitch added, highlighting the importance of maintaining their offensive strategy throughout the game.
This insight comes as the Spurs continue to develop their game plan around their promising talent, who has quickly become a focal point of the team's offensive efforts.
